Why This Works
A Content Lab tool that explains the psychological and strategic reasons why a video works — then returns a 0–100 Why This Works Score and a Success Blueprint.
Overview
Why This Works sits in Content Lab under Viral Mechanics. Open the dashboard sidebar menu: Go Viral → Content Lab (creator account, desktop), load a public or unlisted YouTube video, then run Why This Works. Each run costs 3 AI credits — the same cost as other Content Lab video-analysis tools.
How to run
- 1Sign in as a creator. In the dashboard sidebar menu, open Go Viral → Content Lab (desktop).
- 2Import a video: paste a public or unlisted YouTube URL, pick one from your vault, or use a video saved via the Wayo Ads Saver extension.
- 3In Viral Mechanics, choose Why This Works and run it (3 credits).
- 4Read the three sub-scores, the overall Why This Works Score, the one-line verdict, and the Success Blueprint with key insights in quotes.
What it uses
Each analysis looks at the video’s title, packaging, and performance. Success signals come from packaging psychology, format, and engagement — plus captions and thumbnail description when available.
- Title and channel name (positioning + title psychology)
- Engagement stats when present: views, likes, comments
- When present: title, description, and tags, plus video type (e.g. Short vs longer video), duration, and publish date
Fetched when available
- Captions (quotes for emotional beats and opening curiosity)
- Thumbnail description generated from the video thumbnail image (visual hooks)
Scoring framework
The tool scores three parts of the score, then produces one overall Why This Works Score (0–100). These parts frame the analysis — they are not a separate calculation on screen. Unlike some Lab tools, this analysis does not assign fixed percentage weights.

Score breakdown
0–100
- Psychological Triggers84/100
- Strategic Choices79/100
- Audience Psychology82/100
Why This Works Score
Curiosity gap in the title pairs with a high-contrast thumbnail face — viewers click for the reveal, stay for the transformation arc, and comment on identity (“this is me”).
Psychological Triggers
- Title opens an unfinished loop (outcome withheld until payoff).
- Identity language invites “people like me” belonging without hard-selling.
Strategic Choices
- Structure: hook → stakes → steps → reveal keeps energy from flattening mid-roll.
- Thumbnail withholds the after-state that the title promises — complementary pairing.
Audience Psychology
- Click: specific outcome + emotional face cue.
- Share: “send this to someone who needs this” amplification framing.
Success Blueprint
- Reuse the curiosity–reveal pairing; never spoil the payoff in the thumbnail.
- Keep identity language soft so comments become the engagement engine.
- End with a shareable one-liner that names the viewer’s situation.
Takeaways
- Treat title + thumbnail as one psychological unit — complementary info beats redundant text.
- Map click → stay → engage → share as four separate jobs; strengthen the weakest link first.
- Use the Success Blueprint as a checklist for the next video — not a script to copy verbatim.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this guarantee my next video will go viral?
No. Why This Works is an AI estimate of why the video works, plus a Success Blueprint. It explains likely reasons behind performance; it does not guarantee virality or repeat results.
What if there are no captions?
The analysis still runs with equal confidence and does not mention missing captions. It uses title psychology, thumbnail hooks, engagement, format, and channel positioning.
Is this the same as YouTube Analytics?
No. It does not import Analytics graphs or audience demographics from Studio. It reasons from the video context Content Lab can see.
How much does one run cost?
3 AI credits per Why This Works run, same as other Content Lab video-analysis tools.
